Project Description:

Pineapple Grove Artwalk is a soon-to-be Outdoor Sculpture Gallery featuring 40 sculptures, several obelisks, informational kiosks, murals and a twenty foot high Entry Arch at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Pineapple Grove (Northeast Second Avenue), Delray Beach.  Sculptures will be of various materials, sizes and themes.  This one time request of $150,000 will be used for construction of 40 foundations to be used for the outdoor sculptures.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

This project will produce jobs in the maintenance, clerical, administrative, teaching and security areas as well as additional opportunities in retailing, restaurant and entertainment.

Conducted tours will be available.  Stops will occur at various art sites: the Butterfly Park, the Delray Beach location of the Miami City Ballet Company, Pineapple Town, Creations of Pineapple Grove, Ocean City Lumber Company Restaurant and Shops and other locations yet to be determined.  Several educational/instructional opportunities will be available.  Sculpture, painting and glass blowing classes, among others, will be taught by qualified instructors.  Particular attention will paid to school children and seniors.

The state will benefit since taxable revenue, jobs and tourist development will be produced as a positive result.  This project will be of benefit to the City of Delray Beach, the region and the state as a tourist destination.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Since Delray Beach has become a tourist destination, and since several events throughout the year draw thousands of visitors, we look forward to a year-round substantial number of visitors to the Pineapple Grove Artwalk Outdoor Gallery.  Outcome will be measured by head count and positive economic impact in actual dollars plus the multiplier effect of visitor spending.  This project will be completed by early winter of 2000.  By the end of year 2001 it is expected that we will accommodate between 75,000 and 100,000 individuals touring the Gallery.  It is expected that each person (including students and seniors), on average, will spend $10 (lunch, gifts, etc.) therefore, the revenue stream will be between $750,000 and $1,000,000.  Using an established multiplier of 3, one can conclude the community economic benefit will reach between $2,250,000 and $3,000,000 per year for the first few years.  Forecasts for future years depend on general economic conditions.
