Project Description:

The Florida 4-H Youth Development Program is a member of the national 4-H Cooperative Curriculum System (4HCCS).  The 4HCSS produces a full line of 4-H project materials in economical yet appealing to youth publications.  University of Florida faculty collaborate with other faculty around the country in the development of these materials.  These project books enable 4-H youth to complete learning experiences and are research based and fun, fulfilling the Cooperative Extension Service mission to effectively take the research of the land-grant to the people of the state.  This project would provide one full set of 4HCSS curricula to each county extension office and would provide 3 project books to the 25,000 youth enrolled in 4-H clubs statewide.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Substantial purchases of 4HCCS curriculum for every county extension office have not been possible for many years due to budget constraints.  Current 4-H project books available in many county extension offices are quite old and in such poor condition that they are an embarrassment to be distributed.  This project would substantially invigorate the curriculum available for the Florida 4-H Youth Development Program.  The project will facilitate learning by the 25,000 4-H club members in the state of Florida.  It will encourage other youth to participate in this positive youth development program, and inspire further interest in 4-H club project work.  It will provide curricula for volunteer leaders to explore and enhance learning experiences at the county level.  It will aid county extension staff in preparing educational programs.  It will also act as a recruitment tool, enabling county staff and volunteers to positively represent the 4-H to other audiences.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

This will be assessed on the 2001 annual es-237 statistical report which collects data from all of Florida's counties and reports 4-H project enrollment, as well as 4-H club enrollment numbers.
