Old Hometown is an interdisciplinary, intergenerational , heritage based service-learning elective program of Escambia County and the Historic Preservation Board. |

This project promotes Florida's and Pensacola's(Escambia Co) unique history in addition ot educating middle and high school students, and provideing the legislative requirements of community service to district curriculum while emphasizing skills needed in everyday life. |

|
The project fully meets all appropriate educational standards including the Sunshine State Standards. Projects and publications of the progam have received many awards including those from Columbia University, the Sunshine State School Public Relations Assn, the Freedoms Foundation, the Florida History Fair and National History Day, local press assn awards and others. In addition, students perform valuable community service and mentoring in the 2 failing schools as well as all marginal schools in the district. |
