Project Description:

Presently there are no regional stormwater treatment facilities in Green Cove Springs.  The majority of the City's drainage is provided by the city's original sewer system (sanitary sewage was seperated in the 70's), which discharges directly into the St. Johns River without treatment.  The goal of this project is to retrofit existing treatment systems to provide treatment where none previously existed.

Specifically, the appropriation will allow the City to develop a series of regional drainage ponds to collect runoff and to construct a number of baffle boxes, which are designed to remove 40-60% of the sediments, heavy minerals and nutrients from water runoff.  This project has been identified by the St. Johns River Water Management District as important to the overall effort to clean up the lower St. Johns River basin.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

This project will improve drainage in Green Cove Springs and most importantly, it will provide that runoff is properly contained and treated before it reaches the St. Johns River.
