Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum, Inc., will construct an archaelogical center to provice long-term historic, educational, research and other public benefits by protecting artifacts from 55 shipwrecks in a state permit area which is currently unprotected from storm and pirates.  Project was requested as part of the Secretary of State's Budget, but not included in her recommendations to the Governor.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

 

 

 

 

 

The Center will provide historical and educational programs for Florida residents and visitors.  It is anticipated that the Center will provide educational programs for local students.  In addition, the Center will have research capacities for schools and universities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

The Construction of the facility will ensure the protection of artifacts from 55 wrecks.  It is anticipated that the Center will attract 250,000 visitors annually.
