Project Description:

An obvious void in West Ocala, Marion County is the absence of accessible health or preventive health services.  This area is also void of a pharmacy and medical offices within reasonable proximity to the residents.  Currently, CFCC students provide some preventive care to the children of the area through co-op experiences at the local middle school.  The Community Outreach and Preventive Care Center will offer training in the health professions and the business profession.  Additionally, the center will provide screenings and sponsor a teen pregnancy preventive model.  Community support groups will have an opportunity to bring this support service to a hard to reach special population.  There are currently numerous local partners supporting this effort.  The West Ocala Revitalization Council, Munroe Regional Medical Center, Marion County Health Department, Ocala Regional Medical Center, Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council, City of Ocala, Economic Development Council and the Ocala/Marion County Housing Authority.  The University of Flordia has agreed to locate their dental program in this facility as well.

There are no local or private dollars for this project, but there is federal.  This project has a $1.5 mil commitment from the Dept. of Commerce/EDA in Atlanta. Contact: Willie Taylor (404) 730-3032.

All in-kind will be in the form of services resources once center is constructed.
