Project Description:

Funds will be used to construct a 45,000 square foot multi-use building that would be available for use  throughout South Central Florida. Building will meet hurricane shelter specifications.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

This building would be used for as disaster shelter for the South Central Florida area and due to the fact that the building will be located on the fair grounds it would have ample space to facilitate shelter for animals during a disaster. Also, it would be used for many community events such as agricultural and industrial exhibitions, public gatherings, cultural activities, school evetns and other functions which enhance the educational, physical, economic and cultural interest of the public.  Facility would be used to hold public meetings to supervise and conduct lectures of all kinds of demonstration work in connection with or for the improvement of agriculture, horticulture, stockraising, all other farming related matters for the benefit and development of the educational, agricultural, horticultural, livestock, charitable, historical, civic, cultural, scientific and other resources of the geographical area that the Fair Association represents and serves.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Will provide a safe haven to local residents who live in mobile homes or low lying areas and citizens who reside in our coastal counties that are forced to leave during an evacuation order.   When not in use as a shelter will serve as a community center for residents in the surrounding areas.
