Project Description:
Project will divert the excess wastewater from the City of Fort Myer's South AWWTP to the Fiesta Village and Fort Myers Beach areas for beneficial use. Project consists of three elements: 1) addition of 2 mgd of filtration and service pump facilities at the City's South AWWTP, 2) construction of a 5 mgd storage tank, and 3) installation of 5 miles of transmission mains.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
The project reduces pollutant loading to an impaired water body identified on DEP's 303d list, the Caloosahatchee River. Benefits include: 1) Improvement of the Manuel Branch water quality by reducing the discharge of treated wastewater into the Maunel Branch in the Caloosahatchee River and 2) Reduction of regional raw water demands, and thereby, reduction of the cost and potential enviromental impacts of developing new water supplies.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The project will increase the City of Fort Myers' production of reclaimed water by 2 mgd, and reduce the discharge of wastewater effluent to the Caloosahatchee River by the same amount.
