Construction of a facility built to hurricane shelter specifications which will also serve as a recreation complex providing a full-court basketball court, weight room, two racquetball courts and two activity rooms. |

Highlands County is a host county to coastal counties during hurricanes. This facility will provide shelter space during emergencies. As a recreation complex this facility would serve approximately 25,000 citizens of northern Highlands County as well as residents of southern Polk County and eastern Hardee County. |

Upon completion this facility will provide 13,000 square feet of shelter space to 650 evacuees. As a recreational facilty the needs of approximately 25,000 residents will be met. |
