Project Description:

To add on and reinforce present building to make possible an emergency shelter catered to the developmentally disabled and physically challenged.  In non-emergency periods the buidling will function as a training and development facility for the developmentally disabled.  In all, the building should be able to house and feed up to one hundred clients in the time of an emergency.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

The building will serve as an emergency shelter for citizens throughout the state. ARC has on call staff already, which will man the shelter. Staff is trained in basic first aid and CPR and agency has an existing safety management plan. The building will be equipped with two feeding facilities. A state owned and operated facility catering to the profoundly disabled, is located across the street.  They could act as a place of sanctuary in time of emergency to those needing this service.  In addition, our pre-vocational department can train clients to function in the general population producing income beyond what they get from the state, giving them a higher standard of living.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

This will be a unique facility able to provide emergency shelter for 100 people with disabilities.  This expansion will also provide added space to the existing workshop for 20 new clients.
