Project Description:

Beach park improvements including boardwalk, landscaping, renovation of bathrooms, reconfigure existing inadequate parking and create additional parking.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

The main benefit is improvement to Anne's Beach Park which is adjacent to U.S. 1 and a highly visible state-owned park.  As one of the few beaches in the Upper Keys, tourist and residents utilize this park heavily.  Proposed improvements to the boardwalk will repair worn sections as well as provide accessibility to disabled park patrons.  Currently the park is in poor condition.  Parking is inadequate and cars often park on grass and the right of way areas.  The asphalted parking areas are deteriorating and washing into the ocean.  There is no landscaping at the park entrance and the bathroom facilities are deteriorated and an eyesore and improvements would make the facilities more palatable to park visitors.  Landscaping would improve the appearance of the park as well as provide retention areas for stormwater runoff.  The existing parking will be reconfigured to eliminate and re-direct stormwater run- off into the landscaped areas preventing pollution to the ocean, and new parking areas created will enable orderly and adequate parking for visitors enhancing the safety and attractiveness of the park.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Completion of all improvements at one park, including boardwalk, landscaping, renovation of bathrooms and installation and improvements of parking areas.  This project will provide much needed aesthetic improvments for park patrons and motorists on U.S. 1.
