Services Provided/Benefit to State:

According to the "8th Annual Report on Homeless Conditions in Florida," released in March 1998 by the Department of Children and Families, there are at least 55,000 homeless people in Florida on any given day.  Of these people, 16% are females and 35% are families.  In Palm Beach County, it is estimated that 3,090 individuals are homeless.  It was found that 88% of the homeless are females with children.  Homelessness is often the result of a complex set of circumstances that push people into poverty and force them to make impossible choices between food, shelter, and other basic needs.  Operation Hope recognizes the challenge of assisting the homeless and has been effective in utilizing both community resources and informal supports to be effective.  Operation Hope's basic goal is to provide quality, safe, and sanitary emergency and/or transitional shelter to homeless women and women wth children and to provide essential and supportive services that will assist these individuals in becoming sel-sufficient, independent, and productive citizens.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

At full capacity, Operation Hope anticipates assisting 7 family units consisting of 18 family members and 6 individuals per day with temporary shelter for up to 90 days.
