Project Description:
The preliminary design consists of constructing a family aquatic facility that would provide competitive swimming for local school teams, instructional classes, fitness activities, family recreational swimming, as well as access and programs for physically challenged individuals.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
The construction of the Aquatic Facility addresses several goals and objectives identified in the State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, such as 'expanding state and local efforts to provide recreational opportunities to urban areas, including the development of activity-based parks,' as well as meeting the specific goal of providing 'Outdoor Swimming Pool Use' as listed in the Relative Need Index for Region VI, which includes Orange County.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The Aquatic Facility would provide the residents of Northwest Orange County an opportunity to participate in organized and family oriented aquatic activities within the area in which they reside. Learn to swim and competitive swimming programs coordinated with area schools would provide swimming instruction for every school age child in the Apopka area. Aquatic and fitness programs for the disabled and senior citizens would be established, providing opportunities that would not be available otherwise.
