Project Description:

The Amer-I-Can Program, Inc. is a self improvement and life skills training program primarily designed for gang and at risk youth, but is applicable to anyone who is determined to improve their life by learning and applying principles to help make positive choices for a successful transition toward a meaningful, enriched and positive lifestyle.  A certified facilitator teaches the Program.

The program is designed to make a favorable impact upon trainee behavior resulting in improved academic performance (increased grade point average), reduction in negative behavior (disciplinary incidents) and increase in school attendance.  The training helps to restore self worth, self-esteem and encourages the trainee to set realistic goals and to work hard at achieving them.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Graduates of The Amer-I-Can Program, Inc. have proven to become productive members in their homes, schools and society as a whole.  Trainees have been able to take the responsibility for their own actions and eliminate the need to blame others for their destiny.  Therefore, Amer-I-Can trainees have demonstrated an ability to pursue the true quality of life.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

By dealing with gang and at risk youth who are normally poor students, with unacceptable absenteeism, demonstrating negative behavior patterns, The Amer-I-Can Program seeks to increase school attendance, reduce incidents of negative behavior and increase grade point averages.

Utilizing our 15 chapter life management skills curriculum, an Amer-I-Can Facilitator will work extensively with pertinent administrative staff members of the juvenile justice system, local schools, and law enforcement to develop a computer database and baseline profile on each trainee.

We believe that at the conclusion of our training, our program will demonstrate the obvious impact that our curriculum has on trainees.  By using the extensive compilation of data collected, we will present an impressive analysis of overall increased attendance, increased grade point averages, and a reduction in documented negative behavior by the trainees.  The Amer-I-Can curriculum is available in both English and Spanish.
