Project Description:

MCRHS, Inc. currently operates a Health Clinic in Myakka City in cooperation with DeSoto Memorial Hospital.  In 8 months of serving the Myakka City area, MCRHS has seen 947 patients and has conducted over 2,500 patient visits.  A definite need for health care services in this area has been established.  Unfortunately, DeSoto Memorial has re-evaluated its priorities and no longer wishes to be involved in Myakka City in its current capacity.  Additionally, the current clinic is housed in a modular mobile home.  MCRHS is the ONLY medical facility in the area and there is concern over the lack of safety this facility provides in a natural disaster (hurricane, tornado, etc.). The request is to therefore build a more permanent, 3,000 sq.ft. structure on a small parcel of property located adjacent to the Myakka Elementary School.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

This request will provide a permanent medical facility to the people of Myakka City.  It will be located next to the school which will provide several opportunities for cooperative projects, including medical support to those sheltered in the school during a storm.  The need for medical services has been demonstrated by the amount of volume our current clinic is generating in just one year of serving the area.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Continuance of quality health care services in a safe, secure location for poor and underserved residents of Myakka City and rural Manatee County.
