Project Description:

The project will provide professionally supervised case managed mentoring to at-risk Martin County children not already served by our program.  These school age boys and girls typically live in poor/crime ridden neighborhoods, have been identified by school officials as being in danger of making poor life choices, have a family member who is a substance abuser, handicapped and/or involved in the correctional system, do poorly in school and come from a single parent home, live in foster homes or are being raised by someone other than their parents.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

This is a prevention project with a focus of encouraging children to stay in school and live violence free.  Priority services are intended to reduce juvenile crime or delinquency identified by the Legislature or the Dept. of Juvenile Justice through one to one mentoring.

This is a program of supervised volunteer mentoring which takes place either in school or is community based.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Fifty new mentoring relationships will be established.

No new delinquent behaviors in 85% of targeted children.

85% of mentored students will maintain or improve academic performance by the end of the grant program.

85% of mentored students will maintain good school attendance or make needed improvement to achieve good school attendance.

80% of targeted children will show improvement on their behavior evaluation.
