Project Description: |
State of Florida to join with Manatee County, City of Bradenton and Federal Goverment to address flood control problems around Wares Creek in central part of the County. This project is to be performed in conjunciton with and as a component of the greater Wares Creek Flood Control Project. The project proposed involves: Removal of excessive sedimentation occurring below mean high tide at the mouth of Wares Creek at a project beginning point of 7th Avenue bridge proceeding north to the mouth of the Manatee River. These accumulated sediments impede flood flow creating upstream flooding. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Estimated average annual flood damages within incorporated Manatee County and the City of Bradenton without the project are $6,700,000. Annual flood damages with the project are reduced to $2,860,000, yielding a federal benefit/cost ratio of greater than 3.3:1. 2,684 structures are impacted during the 10-year storm event without the project with estimated damages exceeding $22 million. Upon completion, estimated flood damages are reduced to $11 million, a 50% reduction. Flood elevation during the 10 year event are expected to be reduced to between 1-2.5 feet over the urbanized area of 6.23 square miles. Regional flood protection benefits accrue to unincorporated Manatee County and the City of Bradenton. |
