Project Description:

The scope of the work for the project includes installation of a Continous Deflective Separation(CDS) system between the existing drainage network and the waterway to eliminate infiltration of trash, debris, vegetation, and sediments which are currently carried into the waterway by the existing system of drainage ditches.  The collection point at the proposed CDS site currently receives untreated stormwater runoff from a large surrounding area including State Road 55 (US Hwy 19), the downtown commercial and residential districts, and existing mosquito control ditches which then discharges directly into the Outstanding Florida Waterway system.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Reduce/eliminate stormwater runoff to Kings Bay.  This waterbody is listed as a high priority on the state 303(b) list.  Extensive documentation is available through SWFWMD and other state agencies.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

1) Remove +/- 90% of petro-chemicals, trash, and debris from entering Magnolia Creek which feeds into the Crystal River- Kings Bay system, an Outstanding Florida Waterway.

2) Eliminate +/- 90% of vegetative matter from the discharge flow of Magnolia Creek into the Crystal River-Kings Bay system.

3) Remove +/- 90% of coarse sediments and attached pollutants such as heavy metals and nutrients from the discharge flow prior to entering the waterway.

4) Improve water clarity of untreated water entering the Crystal River/ Kings Bay, O.F.W. system through its tributary, Magnolia Creek.
