Project Description:
Construction of a Florida memorial for the veterans of World War II. Request is for seed money for planning, design and to provide incentive for private matching grants. As project is currently in the planning stages the total cost is undetermined - an estimate is provided.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
Funding will begin to implement Senate Bill 714 that passed during the 1999 Legislative Session. Approximately 600,000 WW II veterans live in the State of Florida. As a nation, we are losing WW II veterans at the rate of 1,000 each day. While it has been 54 years since the end of WW II, these veterans still have not been honored by a national or state war memorial.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
As those associated with previously funded Vietnam War Memorial and Korean War Memoial. Honoring those who gave so much so that we all have so much - needs no future measure.
