Project Description:
The state owned Coconut Grove Playhouse is a seventy three year old building which is counted among the most prestigious regional theaters in the nation. Structural problems were discovered by the Department of Management Services which require emergency repair and replacement.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
Problems to be addressed: Existing Structure is corroding, cracking, and delaminating from masonry /concrete ; In fill are not tied properly to structure, Southeast wall is shored up to prevent buckling; windows are leaking, leaking plumbing is not adequate and not up to code; outdated electrical system not up to code; a/c system is broken, interior spaces should be gutted (exposed wiring, piping, fire hazards, ADA inaccesible); Building does not meet ADA request (Dept. of Management Services Comprehensive Report, 7/20/1999).
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The building curently does not meet code/life and safetly requirements. Repair and replacement will limit significant state liability.
