Project Description:

Saber Proposes to serve 170 youth by offering services which, as in the past have included Outreach and Recruitment, individual, family, and vocational counseling; remedial education and referral to on-the-job training; Employability Skills Training (EST), job search assistance placement if needed; and referral to supportive services (i.e. needs assessment during counseling, etc.).

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

SABER has developed and put in place an innovative program targeted to needs of at-risk and out-of-school youth. Services include outreach and recruitment; individual, family, and vocational counseling; remedial education and referral to on-the-job training; Employability Skills Training (EST), job search assistance and placement if needed; and referral to supportive services (i.e. needs assessment during counseling, etc.). Approximately 40% of Hispanic Youth in Dade County drop out of high school. This lack of formal education along with the problems associated with language and acculturation have led to a significant portion of Hispanic youth being socially dysfunctional. In part this accounts for the severe youth-gang problem in the core areas of Miami.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Launch an outreach and recruitment campaign to recruit a total of 170 at risk youth applicants; enroll a total of 170 at risk youth applicants; deliver supportive services to 170 program participants ; provide counseling to 170 participants and or family as needed; provide EST training to 170 participants ; provide summer youth training and employment through our WIA funded program for those that qualify; make available remedial education training to 170 participants as needed; provide job search assistance and placements (as needed to 170 participants).
