Project Description: |
The Plan Proposes to dredge the River, dry the sediment near the River, and haul the dried material to a landfill for disposal. Services Provided/Benefit to State: |
Dredging of the River will enhance its environmental quality which wil improve those portions currently being affected by the contaminated sediments. Studies have demonstrated that the contaminated sediments within the River have been carrued into adjoining portions of the Bay: State Aquatic Preserves, SWIM water body, important fishery, and wildlife habitat. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Upon completion of the project, the navigation channel will be restores to authorize depth and width, allowing enhanced use by freighters and contaminated sediments will no longer be conveyed to Biscayne Bay. Water quality, particularly water clarity, is expected to improve, since sediment resuspension will be reduced following completion of the project. |
