Project Description: |
Young At Art Children's Museum, in partnership with Broward County Libraries and the Town of Davie, will establish the first Children's Literacy and Education Complex in South Florida. The multi-acre campus in South Broward will integrate a new children's library with the new 40,000 sq. ft. Young At Art's Children's Museum, whose collective goal will be the literacy, artistic, and cultural education of children from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties. State funds are being sought to assist with the planning and conceptualization of Young At Art's portion of the initiative, ensuring that the new facility, with strong support from local government and the community, meets the needs of children's reading and artistic literacy, early childhood development, and cultural tolerance, and ensures that Florida's Sunshine State Standards in the core concepts of reading, writing, and math are integrated into the program curriculum for the benefit of students and educators from the region and state. |

The new education complex will be the first in the state to integrate the proven educational impact of interactive learning in a children's museum with the learning environment of a children's library. The new educational complex will focus on the three most essential forms of children's literacy--reading, arts, and multicultural education. Through reading literacy that emphasizes retention and comprehension, children from birth to age 8 will be better prepared for and achieve greater success in school. Through arts literacy, children from birth to age 15 will learn to clearly and creatively communicate complex ideas, both verbally and non-verbally. Educators will be taught how to integrate the arts curriculum into learning strategies which correlate to the key concepts of reading, writing and math within Florida's Sunshine State Standards. Through multicultural literacy, appreciation, and tolerance of our State's melting pot society will be emphasized, leading to new methods for reducing violence and improving conflict resolution in our schools. Accessibility to the Museum's comprehensive and interactive web site will enable parents, teachers and students to access information and learning materials for maximum statewide impact. |
