Cortez has been selected as a participant in the WaterFronts Florida program which means that Cortez is an historical resource of statewide prominence. The historic fishing village of Cortez is unique in that it has changed relatively little over the years. Although the historic aspects of the village have attracted state-wide attention, there is no public focal point in the village to facilitate access to the area and its resources. The County will operate the site as a multi-purpose facility focused primarily on preserving the historic significance of the property and village. |
