Project Description: |
This appropriation would provide the necessary funding to provide a 10% pay increase for the teachers of St. Johns County. Both the Commissioner of Education and the Governor have addressed this issue as part of their budget recommendations, but at a level considerably lower than 10%. |

Our teachers have been dramatically underpayed for years, in some cases, working for more than 10-12 years before their salary reaches $30,000. In my years in business, I have learned two important lessions when it comes to compensation for employees. First, pay your good employees well in order to retain them. Secondly, when employees feel as though they are being compensated well for a job well done will continue to work hard. Certainly, this has worked in my family business, that is approaching its 40th year in business. I believe that this time tested business philospohy, when implemented for our educators, will solve two problems, recruitment and retention. |
