Project Description:

Plans include a major reconfigurement project with three phases:  addition of educational exhibits and signage; establishment of a state Marine Welcome Center; and development of a full-scale Maritime Museum and Education Center with interpretive marsh

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Fernandina Harbor Marina is gateway to Florida, being the first Florida harbor encountered by out of state boaters, hosting a steady stream of national and international visitors.  As the state Marine Welcome Center, it will provide visitors with an enhanced facility which will offer fixed and portable pumpout services and information on the Clean Vessel and Clean Marina program.  Taken as a whole, the Marina Welcome Center will become a living exhibit, offering a complete look at Florida's past and present, foster an understanding of Florida's history from the maritime perspective, and educate boaters about Florida's efforts to preserve its environmental resources and endangered species.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

A direct measure will be the recorded number of visitors and boating vessels which visit the marine welcome center in pursuit of historic, cultural, commercial, and saftety information.  Officials anticipate $2.6 to 3.9 million total output impacts over a ten-year period per a University of North Florida economic impact study.
