|
This appropriation would assist the Flagler County Commission in constructing a fire station and emergency response facility at the Flagler County airport. The need for this airport became apparent during the early days of the 1998 Wildfires, when 21 homes were lost in the Seminole Woods fire. This fire ignited quickly and moved even faster through the rural neighborhood. The Palm Coast fire station and the Korona Fire Station responded quickly and handled the situation to the best of their abilities, but unfortunately, they were too far away to respond in a way to control the fires before they entered the residential community of Seminole Woods. This fire station would serve not only the airport, but also the communities of Seminole Woods and Quail Hollow, and would also be strategically located in order to provide mutual aid to Palm Coast, Flagler Beach and Bunnell. The airport would be built with a 80/20 match program through the Department of Transportation. |
