This appropriation would open up a critical northern evacuation route from the heavily populated community of Palm Coast. This $3 million appropriation would allow Flagler County to pave Old Kings Road, which is a dirt road that runs north from the northeast quadrant of Palm Coast and to construct a one-way, northbound interchange with Interstate 95. Since Palm Coast is one of the largest communities along the northeast coast of Florida, but is only served by one access to the Interstate, county officials found that it was very difficult to evacuate the community during the 1998 Firestorm and then again during Hurricane Floyd. This new route would make evacuations far faster and far smoother for the residents of Palm Coast. |

This road will allow residents to get out of danger in a far quicker manner, lessening the potential for loss of life. In addition, the sooner that everyone is evacuated, the faster that emergency crews can access areas during times of emergency. |
