This appropriation is the first in a four year effort to help St. Johns County hire 68 new teachers over the next four years.  This appropriation at $636,038 will hire 17 new teachers in St. Johns County as part of an overall effort to put 10,000 new teachers in Florida schools by the year 2003-2004.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

 

 

 

 

 

Florida currently needs to hire 8300 teachers to meet the goal of a class size of 20:1 in K-3, as set by L.O.F. 98-211.  The additional 1700 teachers would be used in critically low performing and failing schools.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

Lower class size means a more direct teacher-student interaction.  This means more individual attention and better education, especially in failing schools.
