Project Description:
The City of Pahokee is correcting deficiencies within their Wasterwater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Collection Services area per FDEP CONSENT ORDER. The City is utilizing local as well as other outside funding source funding (not including any state appropriations) which will constitute local matches. The on-going improvements include correction of residuals management systems. WWTP improvements, sewer collection improvements and P & I corrections. It is proposed to reduce infiltration and inflow within the existing and aging sewer system. The existing City sewer collection is over 50 years old and was constructed in and over "muck" soils. The collection lines are in desperate need of repair due to excessive cracking and resulting infiltration. The City is currently under a FDEP Consent Order to repair the lines. The City is suffering major economic declines due to environmental clean-up activities, resulting in less use of agricultural and other land uses. Therefore, reducing local tax revenues. The City cannot afford to perform this required work and is presently already over the normal highest utility rates in the County. This project proposes to line the worst sections of the sewer lines.

Meet Consent Order Requirements. Stop groundwater contamination into waters on the FDEP 303 (d) list. Prevent health hazards.
