Project Description:
Falmouth Volunteer Fire Department is requesting funding to build a fire station. Suwannee County has agreed to lease the needed property to this fire department for seventy-five years at a cost of one dollar per year. The volunteers and their families of this hard working fire department have labored to raise the funds to build a permanent building. This building would be used to house their fire equipment as well as to do training. Because they do not have a building in which they can house their equipment they recently substained damage to one of their fire engines. If funding can not be found for this construction they may have to abandon this fire department.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
In rural counties such as Suwannee County, these volunteer fire departments are vital to the safety of communities such as Falmouth. The fires that burned throughout the State of Florida are still very real to many citizens, and volunteer fire departments such as Falmouth are vital for the safety of rural communities as well as the State of Florida. They also assist the Division of Forestry in fire fighting during emergency situations such as we have experienced in our state.
