Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Restoration of an 111 year old historic lighthouse in Pinellas County which was the naviagational marker for the Tarpon Springs sponge harvesters.  The 19th century lightthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is in need of major repair.  First year budget request provides for stabilization of existing facility to prevent degradation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

 

 

 

 

 

It is to restore the original lighthouse keeper's quarters, boathouse and other support facilities, but is not too late to preserve this metal structure and the history that surrounds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

By restoring this lighthouse, you will eliminate the vandalism and destruction of a historic place, provide a safe and clean environment for residents and tourist to visit and potentially increase the numnber of visitors to a Florida State Park.
