Project Description:

This project consist of improvements within the right of way of Culbreath Road, and any transistions needed to provide a safe pedestrian connection from the Bloomingdale Little League Facilty to the YMCA facility located immediately across the roadway.  There will also be minor work needed at the transistions of the public sidewalk to connect to the onsite walkways.  The project include state of the art innovations in lighting and approach warning notice for added safety due to the high percentage of children atttracted to this facility.  The roadway lighting will be operated and owned by TECO Corp. and the energy costs will be paid by Hiillsborough County.  The County will also provide support for this project via in kind service in the installation of portions of the work.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

This project will benefit the state via the increased safety to the residents of the area and the patrons of these two facilities.  The area has a history of traffic concerns due to the proximity to the Bloomindale High School and a major roadway.  The high percentage of students and younger children crossing this roadway, which is a collector road, makes a project of this sort a necessity.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The facilities will enjoy greater use and therefore support themselves more readily due to the heightened sense of safety by citizens.  There will be reductions in injury and death from what may ohterwise occur by the conflict of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.  The county will monitor to document the accident frequency and related data to confim the cost/benefit results.
