Project Description:
This project has been filed as legislation for the upcoming 2000 Regular Legislative Session. The grant program would diseminate funds through the Department of Health to community-based organizations that work to promote healthy behaviors and that strive to reduce and ultimately eliminate health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities in Florida.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
The proposed legislation would provide for the creation and administration of the above-mentioned grant program, which would target the following health issues: **infant mortality rates **immunizations for children and adults **HIV/AIDS **diabetes **cardiovascular disease, and **cancer. The grants are available to any neighborhood- or community-based organizations in the state of Florida that work to decrease or eliminate these health issues.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
It is anticipated that adoption of this legislation into statute will be very helpful in reducing the health issues that continue to disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minority communities.
