Project Description:

The Hepatitis C Program/Hope 2000 Campaign is designed to promote awareness of the Hepatitis C virus, to advocate for preventative measures in contracting the virus, and to promote quality health care and lifestyles to manage this very serious disease.  This project will be in the form of a state-wide campaign to educate the public about Hepatitis C through the use of public service announcements, printed materials, and a speakers' bureau.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

The Tampa Bay Research Institute is a premier research organization in the state that works with the Centers for Disease Control to study the effects of different diseases on the state population, so that effective preventative measures can be instituted to increase awareness and prevention of the spread of these diseases.  Through this campaign, the Tampa Bay Research Institute would have a significant impact upon the public awareness of and prevention of Hepatitis C, a life-threatening virus that has affected more people than the HIV/AIDS virus.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Through the Hepatitis C Program, the Tampa Bay Research Insititute anticipates that it will be able to increase the awareness of the Hepatitis C virus and its risk factors in contracting the disease, and thus effect a decrease in the number of new cases of Hepatitis C as well as the prevention of the spread of the Hepatitis C virus.
