Project Description:

The Hair/Nails Home Care project will offer the services of a State of Florida, Board Certified Hairdresser to home bound clients. The services will include a fist visit to assess the client hair and nail conditions, cut hair and provide manicure. Monthly visits will be provided for hair trimming and nail care to achieve or maintain the physical and psychological benefits that this project provides.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Hair Care: Physical Assesment of the hair to find out if the Client has dandruff, hair loss, ticks, pediculosis (lice), scabies or hirsutism. Brushing and combing hair. Shampooing and/or oiling hair. Cutting or trimming hair.

Nail Care: Manicure taken care of the patient health status, i.e. diabetes.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

As proven by the State Funded pilot program, low income/home bound patients that received the Hair/Nails Home Care required less medical intervention due to less contamination among different infection sites, contamination from aptient to homecare worker and veceversa. Therefore, the risk of contamination of HIV as well as Hepatitis B is less for the Patient and care giver. Futhermore, pychological benefits are well documented among patients that had received the hair/nails services, this translates into substantial savings such as less visits to the doctor or other health care facilities. Also, by providing the hair/nails services at their home special transportation costs will not be incurred by the state as well as the risk of an accident when you take a home bound/bed bound patient out of there home will be minimized.
