Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Edward Waters College in a conjuctive effort with the Duval County Public Schools, Male Mentoring Organization and other Jax-based service oriented organizations, professional and churches, proposes to conduct a direct hands on proactive approach to the prevention of youth violence.  The center is envisioned as a community center for the prevention of delinquency, crime and violence, while concurrently enhancing talent skills and physical agility. Mission- To sponsor an afterschool tutoring/mentoring ongoing program for up to 100 youth based on research and best practice; to create a community center which will provide resources and leadership to coordinate the work of all groups whose main interest is the welfare of the local community youth and organizations, and will bring an array of prevention/intervention stratagies to participant's acaddemic, social and emotional needs.

Establishment of a statewide model juvenile delinquency program that can be instituted on other college campuses, using the faculty and student body to make a strong impact within the community around their institution of higher learning.  Maximize the use of college campus and provide greater support to communities.
