Project Description:
Creating a statement program a competency-based diploma for high school students, assessment of competencies for persons involved in the Wages Program and certificates of competences for individuals completing workforce psot-secondary vocational programs. The secondary school portion of the concept should interface with the Sunshine State Standards. The program should be a grant program administered by the Fla. Chamber of Commerce and require private matching funds either in-kind or a cash match from local businesses. The Fla. Chamber should also provide grants in partnerships with local scchool districts, workforce development boards or community colleges.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
To establish a common language and set of standards that are understood and utilized by business and education to hire and train employees. Provide individualized training to allow businesses to reduce the high cost of training and the amount of time individuals must spend training. Reduce cost of hiring and reduce turnover. Career related and industry-based curriculum. Information on careers, curriculum and Florida businesses available on-line.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Florida employers will recognize the competency based skill certificates and participating Florida high school students will graduate with skill levels that match the needs requested by Florida empoyers.
