Project Description:

All juvenile justice youth must complete high school and enroll in some type of continuing education or training in order to become productive citizens. AMI proposes to offer high school completion  for all youth involved in its level 2 programs or SAFE programs. After completing the juvenile justice program any youth who has not completed high school and is not likely to succeed in the public school setting, will enroll in the Phase II educational program.  The youth will work or attend vocational training during the day and attend school at the AMI facility in the late afternoon/evening for continuing education.  Students will work toward their high school diplomas through credit completetion or GED preparation. The following services will be provided by AMI through its own staff or by brokering services in the community: transportation to jobs and school; job placement; career guidance; counseling; all integrated services required for success; The majority of funding will come from the Florida Education Finance Program

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

The state will benefit from this program by:

1- improving employability of delinquent youth, thus increasing the labor pool

2- increasing the number of taxpayers in the state

3- decreasing the need for services for adults and future generations

5- decreasing school violence by keeping delinquent youth out of the mainstream setting

6- using the existing education funding to increase services to delinquent youth

7-improving test scores in the mainstream population by offering appropriate educational alternatives to delinquent youth.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

increased educational levels; increased life management skills; increased employment levels; decreased crime rates and lower recidivism rates for AMI graduates who attend community college or vocational  schools and who are employed.
