Project Description:

A one-time special appropriations is requested to match local funds for the planning of a Children's Science Center at MOSI that will serve as a critical educational resource for as many as a half-million pre-school and school aged children.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

MOSI Will provide a state-of-the art Children's Science Center that will be a science education resource for all of Florida.  The CSC will serve as a much needed, contributing partner in support of the goals of educational reform taking place in Florida today - - greater accountability, implementation of the Sunshine State Standards and the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, and increased publi/private partnerships.  Particular emphasis will be placed on the educational needs of pre-school children, focussing on experiences that will promote an interest inlearning and school readiness in this younger age group.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The CSC will be devoted to promoting a life long appreciation of learning and education in all children, helping them to prepare for future challenges of both school and work.  Special attention will also be given to serving underprivileged and developmentally challenged children, providing them with educational resources that can help make a difference in their lives.  Ultimately, the CSC will be working hand-in-hand with government, schools, and other community institutions to ensure that Florida's children attain the knowledge and skills necessary to become positive, self-sufficient members of Florida's workforce and society in the future.
