Project Description:

Replacement hospital for Memorial Hospital - Flagler, and 81-bed acute care community based, statutory rural hospital in Palm Coast, FL

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Flagler County is the second fastest growing county in the state, with a current population of 45,000 residents.  From 1990 to 2001, the population escalated by 67.3%.  The rate of growth for those aged 65 years and over those aged 75 years of age and over is 97% and 230%, respectively.  All the citizens of the county will benefit from this project.  Due to the location of the project at the intersection of interstate highway 95 SR100, statewide residents and out of state travelers will benefit by the new facility.  According to the latest study, traffic volume past the new hospital site equates to 84,000 daily trips along I-95.  The new hospital is strategically located to address not only the health care needs of Flagler County communities but north and south bound Florida commuters as well.  Additionally, the Flagler County economy will be positively impacted by this project.  It is expected that 82.7 new full time jobs will be created by the construction of the new hospital.  Total work force will equal an employment base of approximately 276.3 FTE's.  Memorial Hospital is the 7th largest employer in the County.  New positions will be in the areas of nursing, ancillary, professional and support staff.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

This project will address both the current and future medical and health care needs of Flagler County and other statewide residents.  The 81 bed replacement hospital, comprehensive cancer center and outpatient care center will  be clinically state of the art and conducive to the well being of patients, their families and our employees.  An ongoing performance improvement and quality of care program will measure the efficiency and efficacy of services provided
