The Miami-Dade Community Action Agency (CAA) Youth Leadership 2000 Project initiative is targeted at "at-risk" youth throughout Miami-Dade County.    The efforts will expose hundreds of youth, many for the first time, to structured activities established to facilitate positive changes in youth who are already being negatively impacted by "risk factors" in our environment.  Such an effort complement programs such as JASS, because "at-risk"  youth considering, or who are already engaged in criminal activity, but have not been arrested, may rethink their options, change their attitudes and behaviors.  CAA Youth Leadership 2000 supports the Prevention Plan's Keeping Bust Component.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

 

 

 

 

 

CAA Youth Leadership 2000 Project Proposes to provide at least 800 "at-risk" youth between the ages of 13-18 with a series of leadership workshops, enrichment activities, youth resource fair, youth conferences and two (2)service projects designed to provide them with opportunities to voice their concerns about important topics (e.g., violence, education, crime guns, drugs, gangs, sexual abuse, etc.) and to change negative behaviours through involvement.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

To provide 24 leadership workshops in targeted neighborhoods for at least 700 "at-risk" youth, two (2) county wide youth conferences, at least two (2) community service projects, create at least one new youth council during program year, secure a  permanent Youth Representatives Seat on the 42 member CAA Board of Directors, provide 12 enrichment activities for youth council members, provide three Kingian Nonviolence conflict resolution training, one youth resource fair, one youth summit and two scholarships for "at-risk" youth to be used for college or vocational school.  Follow-up will be done with organizations that provide participants to determine the impact of activities.
