Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Teens Today is a non-profit organization that promotes educational learning experience using current events and issues at participating Miami-Dade County Schools.  Teens Read And Talk (T.R.A.T.)Project is requesting assistance to fund ten Miami-Dade County Schools for the 2000-2001 school year.  The Program will target "at-risk" students between the ages 13-19.  The program designed will help develop reading skills, writing skills, increase awareness, current events, enhance creative writing skills, analytical thinking and logical analysis skills and personal presentations.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

 

 

 

 

 

The youth participants will be selected upon recommendtion from their Media Specialist, English and Journalism teachers.  Currently we are already working in 37 schools and are looking for funding for expansion of this program.  Intended programs accomplishments include, but not limited to:  provide "at-risk" youth with a forum/vehicle through which they can voice their concerns about current issues important to them; develop participants' abilities to effectively resolve conflicts, help participants to determine careers in public relations, journalism, broadcasting, TV, etc.; expose participants to community service projects to generate ongoing youth participation and volunteerism; pre and post testing for reading and comprehension.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

We will be able to evaluate data on each participant to track proposed outcome measures by pretest and post test from the current event publication.
