Project Description:
The Initiative includes projects to improve wastewater collection and treatment; implementation master stormwater management plans; dredging of unconsolidated organic muck for environmental improvement; correction of failed septic systems; implementation of best managment practices; and development of tools to calculate pollutant load reduction goals (PLRGs) and total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) for the river
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
Improve water and overall environmental quality in the Lower St. Johns River Basin.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Meet established water quality standards in the Lower St. Johns and tributaries. Reduce pollutant load to river by 720 pounds of nitrogen per day by 2002. Eliminate or bring into compliance discharges from cities of Palatka, Crescent City, Green Cove Springs, Bunnell and Hastings by 2002. Investigate and bring on-site sewage disposal systems in Duval Co. into compliance by 2001.
