Project Description:
COMPLETE the southside Health Department Clinic in Tallahassee, which will provide primary health care, WIC, STD, HIV, Health Promotion and Social services. The building is scheduled for completion in the next nine months and these funds are request to provide necessary medical equipment and furnishings.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
Leon County and Tallahassee have been investigating and studying the needs and strategies to provide primary health care to the uninisured in the community. A Community Task Force and then as advisory panel have devloped the plan that calls on exiting clinic providers of care to expand their current operations to cover more people. This facility was planned to do exactly that mission. It will allow for more clients in this neighborhood and throughtout the community so that the health department can meet the growing needs of the working poor.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
the number of patients receiving services at this site will be reported and the goal will be 12,000 per year. The type of primary care problems treated are anticipated to be: diabetes, heart and cancer patients, rountine upper respiratory and gastrointestinal illness, resukting in potential reduction of emergency room use for non-emergency causes. The goal is $1,000,000 per year in cost savings.
