Tp provide a fact-based approach to planning future growth while protecting the Florida Aquifer in Leon County. Future development in southern Leon County will require a creative approach with the environmental constraints due to the intricate connections between karst features and the Aquifer. Broad-based planning could be advantageous if it takes into account the distribution of environmental features. Traditional planning practices of aplying standard criteria over a large area may be problematic since the Aquifer is so close to the surface in this particular area. This assessment will provide a more detailed review on a parcel-specific level which could identify opportunities to protect sensitive features while maximizing use of developable parcels of land. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Measures are available through the i.d. of deliverables on an established timeline. The baseline information will provide comparable measures for monitoring future development impacts. The benchmark data would be beneficial in assessing the benefits of this type of planning for others similar regions in Florida. An extensive list of features to be mapped is available from county staff. The Stormwater Study portion of the assessment would evaluate existing water quality characteristics and designate areas most vulnerable to degradation of environmental quality resulting from runoff from future development. |
