Project Description:

The City of Marianna Wastewater Treatment Facility has a rated capacity to treat 2.7 million gallons per day of wastewater.  However, during late 1997 and 1998, the facility received flows exceeding the design and hydraulic capacity.  These high flows, coupled with other features of the facility, are known to create difficulties for the operational staff.  In addition, as a part of the City's last permit renewal for the WWTF,  a Capacity Analysis Report was written.  The flow projections were made, and it was recommended that the plant capacity be increased to a total capacity of 3.6 MGD to meet the City's future needs.  A detailed evaluation revealed that the existing trickling filters, along with some other process units (digester, drying bed, etc.) are more than 30 years old and will not be able to meet effluent limits (26% of total flow)that may be imposed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to increase the plant capacity to 3.6MGD.  The existing trickling filter system currently handles approximately 26% of total flow.  The City is currently looking at a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) treatment plant.  There will be a hard copy of this application mailed and attached you will find the major construction and equipment list for the proposed project.  The proposed method of discharge will be surface water and the location will be the Chipola River.  Under rule 62-600.405(a) F.A.C., WWIF exceeding its capacity within five years shall start planning and design.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

(This project is in the Governor's designated Area of Economic Critical Concern) To increase capacity in order to provide sewer service to anticipated new customer connections, both for new housing and businesses; both local and state benefit from this; and upgrading treatment process to further reduce loading of the discharge into the river.  Meet permitting requirements as mandated by FDEP.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

There will be .9 million gal. per day increase in treatment capacity. Advanced treatment which will measureably reduce the amount of contaminant into the river.  Meet permitting requirements as mandated by FDEP.
