Project Description:

The Sawgrass Nature Center & Wildlife Hospital is seeking operational funds for its "Meet Your Wildlife Friends," a live animal outreach educational program. This ?In-House Field Trip?,  is offered to all school age children in Broward & West Palm Beach County. This unique program offers students a rare opportunity to interact with live animals without leaving their classrooms. No travel time or costs are occurred, making it more accessible to children who often do not have this opportunity.  Funding is needed for educational materials, handouts, printing, exhibits, books, scientific equipment, and to provide food, care and medical expenses for our "Wildlife Ambassadors" (live animal exhibit). This program is under the direction of Joan Kohl, recent recipient of the "Governor's Point of Light Award."

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

This program will offer a unique educational experience to many

children who are not likely to have this opportunity. This in turn will enrich their lives, by educating them about our unique Everglades and giving them a Hands On- Interaction with live animals. Opening their eyes to the wonderful world around them may spark an interest in their schoolwork and encourage them to seek other educational opportunities offered by the Center. Possible joining our Junior Volunteer Program, "Green Team" (gardening program) or become a "Lady Bug" (a special program for girls).

These programs are designed to help alleviate juvenile delinquency and mischief, and provide school dropout prevention, while providing children a happy and healthy source of education and recreation.
