Project Description:

The Center for Family Studies Training Institute offers a comprehensive training program designed to advance the effectiveness of providers who treat conduct problems and delinquency in children and adolescents.  Our intervention model,Brief Strategic Family Therapy, is supported by clinical research and has received the designation of "best practice" by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the U.S. Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, and the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention.  We offer a variety of training modalities and programs which range from workshops that can be offered to large groups of providers, to highly intensive experience-based training leading to certification in Brief Strategic Family Therapy.  A legislative set-aside would establish the Training Institute for Family Treatment of Troubled Youth at the University of Miami Center for Family Studies to provide this training to providers across the State of Florida.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The Center for Family Studies Training Institute will train providers in our research-based treatment and prevention model for troubled adolescents.  Front line providers working with this very challenging population yearn to advance their skills by learning state of the art interventions that are supported by scientific evidence.  This desire is conveyed by letters of support that we have received from 30 state-funded agencies who have historically provided a wide range of services throughout Florida.  These letters indicate that the agencies would eagerly participate in our training, if funds for such training were available to them.
