Project Description: |
This project will allow the St. Johns County Health Department to expand its medical services by establishing a walk-in primary care clinic for all patients, regardless of socioeconomic levels. The primary care clinic would be managed by the not-for-profit organization, St. Johns Health Inc., which is comprised by the St. Johns County Board of Commissioners, the St. Johns County Health Department and Flagler Hospital of St. Johns County. The clinic would be open 7 days a week, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. This project was funded in the Senate's proposed appropriations bill, but did not survive the Conference negotiations. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
By providing indigent primary care services, this will accomplish several goals. First, it will reduce the number of uninsured or Medicaid patients who have no access to a primary care physician, which will further reduce the load on our emergency rooms. Also, it is far more cost effective to care for these patients in a primary care facility, rather than in a hospital. |
